Powerful practicality: Google shows the world the endless possibilities of generative AI
Shailesh Patel
This year’s Google Cloud Next conference drove home what many have been sensing for quite some time: AI is here to stay. As a software consultant (and part of a team of designers, developers, PM’s, and IT members), I was eager to see how Google’s latest AI advances would translate into practical applications.
What I observed was truly impressive, particularly when it came to Google’s generative AI technology, Gemini. No longer tethered to Cloud, Gemini now weaves seamlessly into the fabric of everyday products, such as the Google Workspace suite. Gone are the days when AI was siloed within specific platforms. From what I’ve seen, the cross-context support is a true game-changer.
Just imagine:
- Your Gmail drafts completing themselves based on the context of your emails
- Your calendar suggesting meeting times that work for all attendees
- Your docs pre-populated with relevant information and formatting, saving you added time and effort
The conference also highlighted the potential of Gemini beyond traditional office applications. From streamlining design workflows to personalizing user experiences, the possibilities appear endless. Companies like Bristol Myers Squibb, Ford, and Priceline are already tapping into the platform, leveraging Gemini’s capabilities to accelerate drug discovery, optimize manufacturing processes, and personalize travel recommendations.
Google Vids
The announcements didn’t stop with Gemini. Google Vids, the new AI-powered video creation tool for Google Workspace, also raised eyebrows. Users can use it to:
- Craft compelling storyboards with just a few prompts
- Choose from a library of high-quality stock videos and images
- Let AI handle the editing and generate a polished draft in minutes
Google Vids is a smart addition to its Workspace suite and a powerful example of how the company is making AI accessible to anyone looking to create explainer videos, product demos, training materials, and more.
The key Google differentiator.
Unlike other platforms, Google Cloud leverages custom AI models. Which means you can train and deploy models using your own private data, maintaining full security and control. I saw impressive demos showing how easy it is to integrate custom models with Gemini without any compromise to the power of generative AI.
Out of these two platforms alone, the possibilities seem virtually endless.
Helping you get started.
Clearly the future of AI is no longer in question. The key is understanding how to leverage it, whether through platforms like Gemini, ChatGPT, or others. By looking at all the emerging technologies available to you, our team at About Objects can develop a strategy that fits your specific needs. It’s quite possible that it would include custom AI models on Google Cloud—streamlining your business processes and driving results while keeping your data secure.
